नेपाल सार्वजनिक क्याम्पस संघ

Nepal Public campus Association

Introduction

Nepal’s education system has primarily been focused on traditional universities and higher education institutions. Public colleges, popularly known as community colleges are institutions of higher education that are primarily funded by the people’s initation and supported by University Grants Commission (UGC), Nepal. It also receives fund from the provisional and local level governments. These campuses are operated by the bylaws/regulations approved by the affiliating University specially the Tribhuvan University. These colleges are established and maintained through public/ community funding and typically offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields of study. Community colleges, which are known for their practical, skill-based, and vocational education approach, could potentially address the need for more practical and job-oriented education.

Efforts have been made by the Nepal Public Campus Association (NPCA) and educational bodies to establish community colleges to offer technical and vocational education in the country. The aim is to provide skill development and job-oriented training, particularly for students who may not opt for traditional university education or need more hands-on, practical skills to fulfill the need of society. The establishment of community colleges in Nepal is seen as a means to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing more tailored, practical skills relevant to the local job market and industry needs. The development and progress of community colleges in Nepal are likely ongoing, evolving as a response to the country’s educational needs and economic demands.
